Cross River State Governor, Benedict Ayade, has appointed son of the soil, Iyanya, as ambassador of the state.
The announcement was made at the unveiling of the theme for the 2015 edition of the annual Calabar Festival.
Also at the unveiling were Senator Florence Ita-Giwa and Triple MG CEO, Ubi Franklin.
According to multiple reports, the appointment comes with an office, a car and monthly salary.
Iyanya’s hit single, ‘Kukere’ came about after the artiste’s visit to his home state where he saw the people’s love and affection for the Etighi dance.
His decision to do a song to popularise the dance which originated in Calabar achieved global success, particularly in Nigeria, Ghana and the United Kingdom.
