Jigawa State Government has said that 16 almajiri received from Kano have tested positive for the coronavirus.
Northern governors have been ‘deporting’ child beggars to their state of origin as part of efforts to contain the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19).
Jigawa Commissioner for Health, Abba Zakari, said on Thursday via a Facebook press conference that 45 samples were returned, of which 16 were positive.
He said a total of 607 samples of the returned almajiri were sent for COVID-19 test, and only 45 samples were ready on Thursday.
Mr Zakari, who is the chairman of the Jigawa Taskforce on COVID-19, said the remaining 29 that returned negative would be united with their families soon, and each would receive N10,000 and clothing.
The 16 almajiri who tested positive would be transferred to the state’s isolation facility for treatment.
