Commissioner for Health in Lagos, Prof. Akin Abayomi, has said that Alimosho, Oshodi, Mushin, Ikeja, Kosofe and Isolo are having more coronavirus (COVID-19) cases.
Abayomi stated this on Friday while giving an update on the government’s response to the virus.
The commissioner said the state government is trying to ‘flatten the curve’ which, according to him, is to ensure there are not too many COVID-19 patients in a short period of time that will overwhelm the state’s health infrastructures.
He said: “Lagos Mainland has majority of COVID-19 cases. Alimosho, Oshodi, Mushin, Ikeja, Kosofe and Isolo are having more COVID-19 cases. New cases detected in Ojo.”
“Over 1,507 cases diagnosed, 406 discharged, 1,037 active and 33 COVID-19 related deaths recorded so far,” he added.
Abayomi said the state had ramped up its testing capacity as COVID-19 test is now done in four centres — Lagos Biobank, Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR) and 54gene.
The commissioner further said: “Isolation centres are situated in Gbagada, LUTH, IDH Yaba, Onikan and Landmark.”
He said isolation facilities would be set up in Badagry and Epe and that the Agidingbi Isolation Centre is dedicated to frontline health personnel.
