Nigeria international and Lille forward, Victor Osimhen, has lost his father, Patrick Osimhen.
The 21-year-old announced the loss of his father on Sunday morning via Twitter, although he did not state the cause of death.
“RIP Dad. No words to describe this feeling,” the youngster wrote.
It was gathered that Osimhen’s father died at age 80 in Lagos on Saturday night after a brief illness.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has commiserated with the former Wolfsburg player.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this time. Take heart and stay strong @victorosimhen9😢,” the NFF tweeted.
Osimhen enjoyed a brilliant debut campaign in Ligue 1, having scored 18 goals for Lille in 38 games in all competitions so far before the season was ended abruptly due to the coronavirus pandemic.
He helped the Nigeria U-17 team win the FIFA World Cup hosted by Chile in 2015 after scoring 10 goals to win the Golden Shoe and Silver Ball.
