The Osun State governorship election holds on Saturday, August 9. Not wanting to lose ground in the area of stomach infrastructure, the administration of Governor Rauf Aregbesola has stepped up the distribution of rice among residents of the state.
A recent visit to the office of Osun State Commissioner for Commerce, Co-Op and Empowerment, Jayeoba Alagbada, saw about 60 men actively involved in the bagging of Iresi Aregbe as the branded rice is called. Complete with sealing machines and measuring bowls, the office is now the centre of attraction for many – young and old.
The rice arrives the State Secretariat, Oke-Fia in 50kg sacks. The sacks are then taken to Alagbada’s office where they are opened and the content divided into smaller bags, which are then sealed for onward distribution to potential voters.
A source in the commissioner’s office informs our reporter that the distribution is done there because of fear that a chunk of the rice may not reach the target beneficiaries if done somewhere else.
“With the bagging and distribution coordinated from his office, Alagbada is better able to monitor the men and women drafted for Iresi Aregbe,” the source volunteered.
Aregbesola of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Iyiola Omisore of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lead the pack of candidates desperate to win voters over with gifts.
Aside rice, the Governor’s agents have also distributed “odourless fufu” and vegetable oil.
Omisore has also shared similar stuff to people in different parts of the state.
