Nollywood actress, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has stated it is the people and leaders of Africa who have failed and not the continent itself.
The 42-year-old said this is reply to an Instagram user with username, @alhaji_sadiq, who implied Africa Day is not celebrating after Omotola shared a post to mark the day.
He wrote, “No disrespect to you queen but what are we really celebrating? This continent has failed us all and still failing till date…”
The mother-of-four replied, “The continent isn’t the one that has failed. It is rich with natural resources. It is the leaders and actually it’s followers for not not demanding at all cost good management that has failed. However, Africa is beautiful. A gift . We celebrate that.”
Africa Day is celebrated on May 25.
It is celebrated as a commemoration of the foundation of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) now the African Union.(AU).
The theme for the 2020 edition is SilencingTheGuns: Creating Conducive Conditions for Africa’s Development and Intensifying the Fight against the COVID-19 Pandemic.
