Acting Executive Director of Finance and Administration of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Ibanga Etang, has died.
Etang reportedly died at about 2am on Thursday at the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH), Port Harcourt after a brief illness.
His death comes amid the forensic audit on the NDDC’s finances ordered by President Muhammadu Buhari.
The National Assembly is also probing the commission’s finances under its present Interim Management Committee (IMC).
Journalist, Fisayo Soyombo, wrote about the death on Twitter on Thursday.
“Sources are saying this death isn’t ordinary and that they suspect food poisoning,” he wrote.
“His body has been wheeled to the ‘Holding Area’, called ‘COVID-19 Area’, of Braithwaite Memorial Hospital, Port Harcourt. Whatever the intention is, we’ll find out soon.”
Etang was a former Special Assistant to Akwa Ibom State Governor, Emmanuel Udom, on Projects and a former chairman of Esit Eket Local Government.
He was appointed by President Buhari on February 19 as part of a five-member IMC led by Prof. Kemebradikumo Pondei.
