Former Director-General of the Bureau of Public Service Reforms, Joe Abah, has stated that the Southern Kaduna crisis being spoken of on social media was a communal clash which occurred about a fortnight ago.
Abah said this in a tweet on Thursday evening in response to comments about the crisis.
He also said Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, had brokered peace between the warring factions.
“Dear @hadizel, I have now spoken with a number of people in and out of government in Kaduna. I understand that it was a communal clash that happened exactly TWO WEEKS AGO today, and that the governor has brokered peace between the communities. If so, may the peace last forever,” he wrote.
Confirming his statement, wife of the governor, Hadiza El-Rufai, responded: “Thanks for this. If I’d said it nobody would have believed me. Please continue being the fence between sense and nonsense.”
On reported killings in Ebonyi, Abah wrote: “Having been on webinars since morning, I’ve just seen trending news of reported killings in Southern Kaduna & a video purporting to be about killings in Ebonyi (which I’ve not yet been able to confirm). I condemn all killings & call on govts to do more to secure citizens’ lives.
“Save for a recent cult clash that saw two people killed, nobody I have spoken with in Ebonyi is aware of any massacre anywhere in the state. There have, of course, been a history of communal clashes, which the governor has always swiftly addressed.”
