Former governor of old Ondo State, Bamidele Olumilua, has died at the age of 80.
Mr Olumilua died in his Ikere-Ekiti residence in early hours of Thursday after a brief illness, his eldest son, Muyiwa Olumilua, who is Ekiti Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, said in a statement.
“We thank God that he lived a good and worthy life and we are proud of his personality and achievements while alive,” he said.
“Burial arrangements will be announced later.”
Olumilua’s death comes few weeks after his 80th birthday.
He was the governor of old Ondo State from January 1992 to November 1993 during the Third Republic.
Olumilua was elected under the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) until General Sani Abacha truncated civilian administration and restored military rule.
