Fatima Gumsu-Abacha, daughter of late military dictator, Sani Abacha, has denied plans to contest for the Kano Central Senatorial District seat.
Mrs Gumsu-Abacha, in a disclaimer posted on social media during the weekend, said she had no intention of contesting for a public office.
She wrote: “I would like to draw the attention of the general public to the recent proliferation of political campaign material bearing my name and person on numerous social media platforms.
“I wish to categorically state that I am not presently involved in partisan politics at any level and I have not indicated interest in running for any political office; the Nigerian Senate or any other office as currently being suggested.
“I urge members of the public to disregard these suggestions as they hold no truth whatsoever. I would also like to use this medium to counsel the purveyors of this material to desist from peddling any political material using my name and person.
“While sounding this note of caution, let me also take the liberty to encourage us all to stay safe.”
Abacha was military head of state of Nigeria from 1993 until his death in 1998.
President Muhammadu Buhari recently told the international community in an article published in Newsweek, a United States-based publication, that Abacha stole close to $1 billion during his time as head of state.
