The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) says the mother of the late Nigeria international, Rashidi Yekini, will receive one-year advance payment of N360,000.
In a statement posted on Twitter on Thursday, the NFF also denied reports that its General Secretary, Mohammed Sanusi, renounced a pledge made by the federation to give N30,000 monthly stipend to Yekini’s mother and that of the late Samuel Okwaraji.
Lady Janet, mother of Okwaraji, however, died in May aged 83.
“The Nigeria Football Federation strongly denies a story by NAN that the GS, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi reportedly renounced a pledge made by the Federation to stipend on a monthly basis, the mothers of former Nigeria internationals, late Samuel Okwaraji and late Rashidi Yekini,” the statement read.
“We maintain fidelity with our pledge and though, sadly, we lost the mother of late Okwaraji the same month the pledge was made, we have concluded arrangements to deliver to the mother of late Yekini the payment for the next one year in advance.
“There is no way the NFF would have denied a pledge made in support and appreciation of the gesture of the Hon. Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr. Sunday Dare.”
Simiat, a sister of the late Yekini who scored Nigeria’s first ever goal at the FIFA World Cup, confirmed to NAN on Thursday that the family received the first payment of N30,000 from the NFF.
