A Nigerian cleric Pastor Humble Okoro has led several persons in reburying the late George Floyd after allegedly linking him to Mbaise, Imo State.
Pictures of the burial have been shared multiple times on social media, showing banners reading ‘George Obinna Floyd’.
“I have traced the ancestral root of George Obinna Floyd to Umuoffor kindred in Obokwu Obibi Aboh Mbaise Imo State and I feel so happy now that we have reburied him alongside his ancestors,” Pastor Okoro was quoted saying.
Mr Floyd died on May 25 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States while being pinned down for almost nine minutes by white police officer Derek Chauvin who has been sacked alongside three others present at the scene.
Mr Chauvin has been charged with second-degree murder while his former colleagues have been charged with aiding and abetting in the commission of the crime.
The African-American was being restrained for allegedly using a counterfeit bill. He was buried in Houston on June 6.
The death of Floyd sparked Black Lives Matter protests around the world.
