General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Pastor Enoch Adeboye on Monday, August 31 paid a visit to President Muhammadu Buhari at the State House, Abuja.
Presidential aide Bashir Ahmad shared a photo of the meeting on Twitter.
Also present were the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and the Chief of Staff to the President, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari.
The agenda for the meeting was not disclosed. It is believed, however, to be connected to the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA).
The law requires among others that religious bodies and charity organisations will be strictly regulated by the registrar-general of Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and a supervising minister.
CAMA has generated controversy in the Christian space, with the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) describing it as Satanic. Bishop David Oyedepo of Living Faith Church Worldwide has publicly spoken against it.
Osinbajo who is also a pastor in the Redeemed Church had told lawyers during the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) virtual conference held last week that church leaders were not afraid of accountability as regards CAMA.
He urged church leaders to pen their concerns to the National Assembly for a review of the law.
Meanwhile, Adeboye, 78, in one of his recent sermons had advised governments across the world to include religious leaders in COVID-19 committees so as to help with the spiritual aspect of the fight against the pandemic.
“I will humbly suggest as an ordinary Nigerian that may be in the future, they will include in all their committees, men of God. I am not talking about some small boys like myself but some Chief Imams, Archbishops so that they can help them with the spiritual aspects of this warfare.
“I sincerely do hope also that we will all admit that it is not our wisdom, planning or abilities that have given us whatever victory we have gotten. We need to return all the glory to God because we don’t want a relapse of this scourge,” he said.
