Osun State Governor Gboyega Oyetola has called for calm after protest rocked Osogbo on Tuesday evening over a man who was reportedly killed during a chase by the Joint Task Force (JTF).
The protesters mostly youths attacked people in some parts of the town during the protest.
They also dumped a corpse believed to be that of the deceased in front of Osun Government House, Oke Fia, and vandalised a motorcycle.
A vehicle belonging to the JTF was also vandalised around Alekuwodo Area by the protesters, while traffic wardens met on duty were beaten up.
Reports say a vehicle belonging to the JTF had chased a Toyota Corolla car with four occupants along East bypass, Osogbo which led to an accident around 5:10pm in the evening.
One of the passengers was said to have died on the spot, while others sustained serious injury.
Oyetola tweeted on Wednesday, saying he would ensure justice is served.
“The death of the young man that was reportedly chased to death by some security operatives in Osogbo today, is very unfortunate & devastating. I sympathise with the family & loved ones of the deceased,” he wrote.
“I urge our people, especially the youths to remain calm & not take laws into their own hands.
“I assure that a proper & transparent investigation will be conducted to unravel the circumstances surrounding the sad incident & ensure that those responsible for the death of the promising young man are brought to book.”
