The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) says 16 persons have been injured in the gas tanker explosion which occurred on Thursday in Ifako-Ijaiye area of Lagos.
Of the 16 persons, two are in critical condition and have been referred to the General Hospital Ikeja while 14 others with minor injuries have been treated in various hospitals, the agency said on Twitter.
LASEMA also said it discovered a 30-ton LPG tanker operated by Mana Gas Ltd was involved in the explosion.
Several vehicles, an event centre and a woods’ market were destroyed in the explosion.
“The responders discovered that a compromised seal device by the truck driver had led to gradual leakages which then ignited when the tyres burst. Responders at the scene of incidence are LASEMA, @LAG_FireService , @NigeriaPolice and members of #NSCDC,” the agency tweeted.
“Sixteen (16) People were found to have serious injuries and were taken to various hospital including Iju water works Clinic. Two (2) people are in critical condition and are being referred to General Hospital Ikeja. The other 14 have been given adequate first aid.
“Presently, the fire has been extinguished and damping down is being carried out.”
