Gunmen raided the residence of former governor of Bayelsa State Seriake Dickson in Sagbama Local Government Area of the state in an early morning attack on Thursday.
A policeman was killed in the process, according to reports.
The unidentified men, it was gathered, gained access to the apartment through Forcados River on Wednesday night.
Dickson and his family were not in the compound during the attack, it was learnt.
Bayelsa State Police Command said it would release a statement detailing the incident later in the day.
