The auxillary bishop of Owerri Catholic archdiocese Moses Chikwe has been abducted by gunmen.
The prelate, who is expected to take over from the diocesan archbishop, A.J.V Obinna, when he retires in 2021, was taken away on Monday alongside his driver at the World Bank area of Owerri, the state capital.
It was gathered that the bishop and his driver were taken hostage in his car. Hours later, the vehicle was found in front of the archdiocesan headquarters in Owerri.
Imo police spokesman Orlando Ikeokwu said the Commissioner of Police Isaac Akinmoyede had dispatched the tactical units of the command to rescue the prelate.
