The Alaafin of Oyo Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III has conferred chieftancy titles on businessman Shina Peller and US-based businessman and subsea engineer Babajide Agunbiade.
Mr Peller is also a member of the House of Representatives for Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Iwajowa/Kajola Federal Constituency in Oyo.
Peller was given the chieftaincy title of Ayedero while Agunbiade was named Atobase of Yorubaland.
The move is part of the celebration marking the 50th coronation anniversary of the Alaafin.
In his appointment letter to the duo, the monarch said, “The Alaafin from time immemorial is the king and head of Yoruba Nation. He is the only King in Yorubaland who can confer chieftaincy title to a worthy man or woman to cover the whole of Yorubaland.”
Alaaafin stated he had, in consultation with the Oyomesi, ascertained the character, business acumen, philanthropy, and public dispositions of the duo and found them worthy as thoroughbred Yoruba men who are culturally inclined and traditionally oriented personalities.
The chieftaincy induction and ceremony is expected in March 2021.
