Super Eagles striker, Chisom Chikatara, has expressed joy after his heroics earned Nigeria a 4-1 victory over Niger Republic at the African Nations Championship in Kigali, Rwanda on Monday.

Chikatara, 21, replaced Sunshine stars striker, Tunde Adeniji, in the second half and produced three superb strikes to help the West Africans overcome their neighbours.

The Abia Warriors hitman was full of gratitude to God, his teammates and the coach for considering him worthy of a place in the CHAN squad.

“I want to first thank God then my coach for giving me the opportunity to play in such a huge tournament,” the 21-year-old told SuperSports.

“To be sincere I did not expect such a performance but I want to thank my teammates who enabled me to score those goals.”

His three strikes against the Menas earned him the Man of the Match award and the young striker hopes for more of such performances in subsequent games.

“Winning man of the match is definitely a proud moment for me and I pray that I can continue doing my best for my country Nigeria in the tournament going forward.

“It was not an easy game and when the coach brought me in as a substitute I had strict instructions to deliver and alas the coach’s wishes were answered with the important goals I scored for my team Nigeria,” he added.

Next up for Chikatara and the Eagles is a date with Tunisia on Friday.
