Manchester United’s new signing Shola Shoretire made his Premier League debut for the club on Sunday night against Newcastle Utd.
It was the first time the Nigeria-born player was named on the bench in the Premier League alongside Ivorian Amad Diallo.
Shoretire replaced Marcus Rashford in the 89th minute.
United got the better of Newcastle with a 3–1 win. First half effort from Rashford and second half goals from Daniel James and Bruno Fernandes after Allan Saint-Maximin equalised for The Magpies sealed victory for United.
The win keeps United in second position with 49 points after 25 games. Leicester City are third on same points while Manchester City are miles away in the number one spot on 59 points.
Meanwhile, Shoretire was first named to United’s bench on Thursday during the Europa League Round of 32 tie with Real Sociedad which United won 4–0.
The 17-year-old only recently signed his first professional contract with United.
Born in Nigeria, Shoretire was raised in Newcastle, United Kingdom and cites former Barcelona striker Ronaldinho as his idol. He plays off the left wing but is comfortable on the right or behind the striker.
