Galala singer Daddy Showkey has questioned the need for the ongoing national identity number (NIN) and sim card registration if an affidavit is still needed to retrieve a lost sim.
The 50-year-old asked the question in a video uploaded to Instagram on Wednesday with the caption “I beg why we dey do NIN?”
According to the singer, he was asked to produce an affidavit to retrieve a lost phone number despite linking all lines to his NIN.
“Why are you disturbing Nigerians to do NIN?” Why are we like this? What is NIN if it’s not useful for me? Daddy Showkey asked in the video.
The Nigerian government has announced several extensions to the deadline for NIN-SIM registration.
A new date of June 30, 2021 was recently announced as deadline.
Telecoms subscribers who do not link their sim cards and national ID are at risk of having their mobile numbers deregistered.
The government claims linking sim cards to NIN will help checkmate the activities of terrorists, kidnappers, fraudsters and other criminals.
