The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on Wednesday revealed its 2021 inductees, with Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti missing on the list.
Fela’s omission from the performer category for which he was nominated comes as a surprise to music lovers worldwide given that the Nigerian icon came second in the fan vote behind Tina Turner.
Those to be inducted in the category are Tina Turner, Foo Fighters, The Go-Go’s, Jay-Z, Carole King, Todd Rundgren.
Apart from Tina Turner, all the other selected inductees finished behind Fela in the fan vote.
To be eligible for induction into the Hall of Fame, an individual artiste or band must have released its first commercial recording at least 25 years prior to the year of nomination.
The 36th Annual Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place on Saturday, October 30 at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in Cleveland, Ohio.
LL Cool J, Billy Preston and Randy Rhoads will get musical excellence awards; Clarence Avant the Ahmet Ertegun award, and Kraftwerk, Gil Scott Heron and Charley Patton get early influence awards.
