President Muhammau Buhari says he would keep to himself the date when the suspension of operations of the microblogging and social networking service, Twitter, would be lifted.
In an interview on Arise TV aired on Thursday, asked when the Twitter ban would be lifted, Buhari said, “I will keep that to myself.”
But many Nigerians have been accessing Twitter via virtual private networks (VPNs) since the Federal Government ordered the site’s suspension last Friday.
The attorney general of the federation Abubakar Malami had also threatened to prosecute Nigerians still accessing Twitter.
But the AGF has attracted criticism after logging into Twitter via VPN to deactivate his account.
In a statement last week, minister of information and culture Lai Mohammed announced the indefinite suspension of Twitter’s operations in Nigeria.
He stated that the government was forced to act because of “the persistent use of the platform for activities that are capable of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence”.
