Police in Lagos on Saturday morning clashed with June 12 protesters, firing tear gas canisters as the demonstrators gathered at the Gani Fawehinmi Park at Ojota.
The protesters are demanding an end to bad governance.
Similar scenes were witnessed in Abuja, the nation’s capital, as the police fired tear gas canisters at protesters in the Gudu area of the Federal Capital Territory.
The protest began around 08:30 am and was going on smoothly with the protesters, mostly youths, expressing their dissatisfaction with the state of the nation, until the police arrived.
The police had on Friday staged a “show of force” in different states in the country, warning protesters to stay in their homes.
The protests have continued in several other parts of the country despite the National Association of Nigerian Students pulling out due to concerns over safety and possible hijack by politicians.
