Rapper Sound Sultan has died at the age of 44 after battling Angioimmunoblastic T-Cell Lymphoma, his family said.
His brother Baba Dee, in an Instagram post on Sunday written in Arabic, said: “To Allah we belong and to Him we shall return.”
Angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma (AITL) is a rare form of non-Hodgkin lymphoma, which is a group of related malignancies (cancers) that affect the lymphatic system (lymphomas).
A statement signed by Kayode Fasasi on behalf of the family said, “It is wth heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our multitalented veteran singer, rapper, songwriter Olanrewaju Fasasi aka Sound Sultan.
“He passed away at the age of 44 following a hard-fought battle with Angioimmunoblastic T-Cell Lymphoma.
“He is survived by his wife, three children and his siblings.
“We, his family will appreciate the utmost privacy as we come to grips with this tragic loss.”
Reports that Sound Sultan was sick broke in May. According to the reports, Sound Sultan born Olanrewaju Fasasi had begun undergoing chemotherapy in the United States of America.
Although, Baba Dee at that time denied his brother had throat cancer, Sound Sultan later said he would tell the true story someday.
His fans have been praying for him since then.
Sound Sultan is remembered by many of his fans for his 2000 hit song ‘Jagbajantis’.
