A United States court has issued a warrant of arrest for a deputy commissioner of police in Nigeria Abba Kyari following his alleged involvement in a fraudulent scheme perpetrated by Instagram celebrity Ramon Abbas aka Hushpuppi.
Court documents obtained by Peoples Gazette show that Otis Wright of the United States District Court for the Central District of California ordered the Federal Bureau of Investigation to track down Mr Kyari and produce him in the United States for his role in the alleged fraud.
Hushpuppi allegedly conspired with several others to defraud the businessperson (whose name was withheld) by claiming to be consultants and bankers who could facilitate a loan to finance the construction of a school in Qatar.
Mr Kyari, according to the US Justice Department, received bribe from Hushpuppi to arrest a member of the syndicate in Nigeria, an allegation he denied.
However, court documents seen by the online newspaper showed that a court warrant to arrest Kyari was first issued on February 12, 2021, while another warrant was requested on April 29, 2021.
Judge Wright’s permission for the FBI to arrest Kyari and hold him in US custody was unsealed on July 26.
