Kaduna State Government has filed fresh charges against leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky.
This comes about 48 hours after El-Zakzaky was discharged and acquitted by the state High Court of culpable homicide.
The state government’s fresh seven-count charges at a Federal High Court border on terrorism and treasonable felony.
Director of public prosecution in Kaduna Daris Bayero said a warrant of arrest would be issued for the IMN leader to face the fresh charges.
Mr Bayero further explained that some of El-Zakzaky’s actions which he is being charged with dated back before 2015.
Justice Gideon Kurada on Wednesday discharged El-Zakzaky and his wife Zeenat from the eight charges pressed against them by the state government for lack of merit.
