Hisbah Police in Kano, which is responsible for enforcing Sharia precepts, has reacted to the controversy that accompanied a gown worn by Princess Zahra Bayero, fiancée of the president’s son Yusuf Buhari.
Zahra’s white gown which she wore to her bridal shower on Tuesday in Abuja came as a shock to many on social media who expected Hisbah Police to swoop in considering the dress exposed her shoulders.ggggg
Zahra’s critics had said she escaped attack because she was from an influential family especially after Kannywood actress Rahama Sadau faced heavy backlash last year for wearing a backless dress for a photoshoot.
However, reacting to the dress, Sheik Harun Ibn Sina, who spoke on behalf of Hisbah, told BBC Pidgin that Zahra is not above the law.
He said the bride-to-be ought to lead by example if she wants blessing in her marriage.
Ibn Sina criticised those sharing photos from the bridal shower on social media, saying it is a sin to do such.
On Facebook, some Nigerians accused Hisbah Police of selective justice, saying Zahra who is daughter of the Emir of Bichi in Kano ought to be arrested too for indecent dressing.
