The Duke of Shomolu Productions has announced August 22, 2021, as the release date of their upcoming theatre play Awo and Aremu at the Glover Memorial Hall, Marina, Lagos.
The release date was recently announced by the production crew.
The two plays represent a mould-breaking initiative that would see for the very first time two major productions being staged back-to-back in the same venue and involving over 100 casts and crew pulled together by the strong need to expand the sector while making history at the same time.
According to the production house, Awo would touch on several key sectors central to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s agenda on media, hospitality, transport, and job creation. While Aremu is a depoliticised depiction of the life and times of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
According to the executive producer of both plays, Joseph Edgar, the Duke of Shomolu Productions decided to showcase these diagonally different leaders at this time of national development, with the goal of showcasing the leadership ethos and cultural antecedents that moulded and prepared them for the roles they have played towards national development.
The script, which is cleverly written by playwright Prof. Ahmed Yerima, would take the audience through the mysterious birth of its principal, throwing up his growing-up years, touching the very deep and rich trado-cultural ethos that has moulded him and guided him through his very colourful sojourn in life.
