First lady Aisha Buhari on Monday shared photos to Instagram to illustrate how her daughter-in-law Zahra Buhari (nee Bayero) was welcomed into the family.
Zahra, daughter of the emir of Bichi Nasiru Ado-Bayero, wedded Mrs Buhari’s only son Yusuf last Friday in Kano. The wedding attracted top politicians in the country including former President Goodluck Jonathan and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
The first family performed the traditional way of welcoming new wives in the north by covering her face with a veil. A fancy signpost at the door post read, “ZYB Welcome to the family.”
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo’s wife Dolapo was among those who received Zahra into her new home.
“We welcomed our new daughter into the family,” Mrs Buhari’s posts read.
In another post, she thanked God for the success of the wedding and appreciated all who graced the occasion.
She wrote, “Alhamdulillah for the successful wedding of Yusuf and Zahra Buhari. On behalf of my family, I convey our sincere appreciation to all that contributed in making this event a success.
“We appreciate all our guests, relatives and friends and thank you all for your tremendous support and prayers. Wishing my children Yusuf and Zahra, a happy married life. Ameen.”
Yusuf and Zahra rounded off their wedding on Sunday with a luncheon. President Muhammadu Buhari, the bride’s father, Osinbajo, Senate President Ahmad Lawan were at the occasion.
