President of African Development Bank Group Akinwumi Adesina on Friday tweeted photos of two influential women taking turns to straighten his bow tie.
The incident happened at the Compact with Africa conference hosted by German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin, Germany.
Director-general of the World Trade Organisation Nkozi Okonjo-Iweala, and managing director of the International Monetary Fund Kristalina Georgieva were also present at the event and were pictured putting Adesina’s tie in order.
Adesina captioned the photos, “My two wonderful sisters @NOIweala Director General of the World Trade Organization and @KGeorgieva Managing Director of the IMF, making sure there is ‘bow-tie stabilization!’ It is all part of global financial market stabilization.”
Adesina and Okonjo-Iweala both served in the Goodluck Jonathan administration. While Adesina was appointed in 2010 as minister of agriculture and rural development, Okonjo-Iweala was named minister of finance in 2011. They both left office in 2015 when Jonathan lost his re-election bid.
Similar to Okonjo-Iweala’s historic appointment at WTO, Adesina is the first Nigerian to hold the position of AfDB president.
He was first elected in 2015 and re-elected for a second term in 2020 after being vindicated of allegations of misconduct.
