Zamfara State Government has declared a dusk-to-dawn curfew throughout the state following the abduction of scores of students by gunmen on Wednesday.
Gunmen had invaded Government Day Secondary School and taken an unconfirmed number of students captive. The school is located at Kaya town in Maradun Local Government Area of the state where the governor, Bello Matawalle, hails from.
The government also shut down schools, both private and public, operating in all the local governments in the state.
Commissioner of police in the state Ayuba Elkana announced the curfew while addressing newsmen in Gusau.
Mr Elkana said that the curfew was with immediate effect from 6 p.m. to 6 a. m. daily in the 13 local government areas except Gusau, the state capital.
According to him, the curfew takes effect from 8 p.m. to 6 a. m in Gusau, the state capital, until further notice.
