Police on Wednesday said they have arrested the suspected killers of Defwan Dariye, father of former governor of Plateau State, Joshua Dariye.
The older Dariye was killed last year after his abductors collected N10 million ransom from his family. He was aged 93.
The police paraded the suspects at the Force headquarters, Abuja.
Leader of the kidnap gang, Jethro Nguyen, 53, an indigene of Bokos, said he hired 10 others including some Fulani herders to abduct Dariye from his palace, adding that he was kept at their hideout for about 10 days before he was murdered.
According to him, the man was targeted because “he was a good target to make money”.
Force spokesman Frank Mba told the media, “Within the last 30 days, we were able to arrest eight suspects that played key roles in the kidnapping and killing of Pa Dariye.”
Mr Mba named some of the suspects as Abubakar Mohammed, Titus Ezekiel, Sunday Ibrahim, Mangut Suwa, Nguyen, Dauda Isa among others.
“Unfortunately, all the eight suspects who played key roles are from the same village with Pa Dariye, Orop, in Bokkos LGA of Plateau State,” he added.
