Senator Shehu Sani, who represented Kaduna Central in the eighth assembly, has joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The former federal lawmaker had won the seat at the Senate on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2015. Due to a conflict of interest with Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, he lost his bid for a return ticket in 2019.
Sani, however, joined the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) in a last-minute effort but ultimately lost the seat to APC’s Uba Sani. He left the PRP in July.
Confirming his defection, Sani’s close aide Suleiman Ahmed said, “Yes, Distinguished Senator Shehu Sani has finally settled to join the PDP but official ceremony and reception will be in the next two weeks all things being equal.”
He said Sani confirmed his defection on Thursday when he had a meeting with PDP stakeholders in Kaduna.
Sani’s defection to the PDP comes as one of the party’s chieftains Femi Fani-Kayode moved to the APC.
