Filmmaker turned politician Desmond Elliot has bagged a master’s degree in legislative studies at the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS).
Desmond was among several people who graduated during the 2021 convocation ceremony of NILDS-UNIBEN postgraduate programmes at the National Assembly on Monday, October 25.
Speaker of the House of Representatives Femi Gbajabiamila, the representative of the Senate President, Senator Yahaya Abdullahi, and director-general of NILDS, Prof. Abubakar Sulaiman were present at the ceremony.
Desmond posted pictures of the ceremony on social media on Tuesday, October 26. In one photo, the fashionable filmmaker posed with Mr Gbajabiamila whom he described as “the boss”.
The 47-year-old, who represents Surulere Constituency at the Lagos State House of Assembly, revealed in another post that his colleague Rauf Sulaiman also graduated with a master’s degree in the same study.
“Congratulations to Hon Rauf Sulaiman (my colleague) and myself on bagging the MSc in legislative studies. @Hon Jide Jimoh thank you for adding colour and value to this occasion sir,” he wrote.
The excited Desmond also shared photos with the vice-chancellor of the University of Benin Prof Lilian Salami, and vice-chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, Professor Kabir Bala.
He thanked filmmakers Lancelot Imaseun and Aquila Njamah and actress Monalisa Chinda-Coker for their support. Monalisa was present at the ceremony.
The Lagos lawmaker hosted some of his childhood friends after the ceremony.
“Nothing like the people who shaped your world as a young lad and teenage. Some of whom I hadn’t seen in over 30 years. I thank you guys for hanging out with me,” he said.
Days earlier, the actor who is a patron of the Boys Brigade of Nigeria joined in its investiture ceremony at the Cathedral Church, Marina, Lagos.
Desmond is the chairman of the Lagos Assembly committee for ministries/parastatals.
