Pop singer Davido has announced he is donating N200 million raised from his N1m challenge started a few days ago on social media to orphanages, motherless babies homes and foundations, including Paroche Foundation, across Nigeria.
The singer, who has a new song titled ‘Champion Sound’, said in a statement dated November 19 and posted to Instagram on Saturday that he would be adding N50 million of his personal money to bring the total to N250 million.
Davido said he was thankful to all who made donations, adding that although he started it in his usual playful manner it would be used to help people.
“I have always been passionate about giving back and helping people,” he said.
The singer, who will be 29 on Sunday, also said he would be setting up a five-member committee which would oversee the disbursement of the fund. The committee comprises Titi Adebayo (chairman), Prof Jonathan Nwosu (secretary), Prof Yohana Asabe, Pastor Oyalabu of Spring Time Development Foundation and Prof Uloma Onuoha.
For transparency, Davido said the committee will make public the names of beneficiaries and the amounts received.
“My goal is to do this fundraising every year to celebrate my birthday and give back to people in need,” he said, adding that he hopes to organise a fundraiser in December.
