Lagos State coroner Justice Mojisola Dada has scheduled a preliminary meeting with Femi Falana, the legal representative of the family of Sylvester Oromoni who was allegedly beaten to death at Dowen College, Lekki, Lagos.
The meeting which will hold in Epe was scheduled following Mr Falana’s request for an inquest to unravel circumstances surrounding Oromoni’s death.
Epe district coroner Mikhail Kadiri signed the letter dated December 7 inviting Falana to the meeting.
Falana had said in his letter to Dada, “Given the needless death of Sylvester Oromoni, we are compelled to request you to use your good offices to cause a coroner’s inquest to be conducted into the cause of death of this young and promising boy and make appropriate recommendations pursuant to Section 15 of the Lagos State Coroner’s Law 2007 which provides that an inquest shall hold whenever a coroner is informed that the death of a deceased person within his Coroner District is as a result of a death in a violent, unnatural or suspicious situation.”
Also on Tuesday, the House of Representatives asked the inspector-general of police to take over investigation of the case.
The House also asked the federal ministry of education to set out guidelines for the operations of boarding schools.
