Co-convener of Bring Back Our Girls (BBOG) movement Aisha Yesufu has joined the ongoing clash between Ghanaian and Nigerian artistes.
The age-long rivalry between Ghanaians and Nigerians was revived recently by Ghanaian rapper Shatta Wale who said on social media that he does not need Nigerian artistes to succeed. His statement came after he reportedly sold out a local stadium for his concert without a Nigerian artiste on the list of performers.
He said, “I don’t even remember you guys promoting Ghanaian artiste in your country. Until you guys will realise your artiste ‘blew’ in Ghana to say thank you.
“…It’s the truth, your artistes come here for numbers before the world can recognise them. Appreciate Ghana supporting your artiste and stop this foolishness.”
Granmy-nominated singer Wizkid urged Shatta Wale to see Nigerian artistes as one with Ghanaians, saying “we are one Africa.”
However, on Friday, another Ghanaian singer Stonebwoy said Nigerian artistes do not reciprocate the support they get from Ghanaian singers.
Reacting to this, Yesufu tweeted that she does not see other African countries claim solidarity when Nigerians are dragged by the world for fraud.
“When Nigerians are dragged by the world for scam, I do not see other African countries claiming Africa is one and we should all bear the label. Now it is music, we are one,” the activist stated.
“I find it funny how people feel entitled to other people’s success with such arrogance and condescension.”
