Speaker of Osun State House of Assembly Timothy Owoeye and eight other lawmakers have visited the general overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, over the feud between Governor Gboyega Oyetola and minister of interior, Rauf Aregbesola.
Oyetola and his predecessor Aregbesola have been having a running supremacy battle in the state, with the former undoing some of the latter’s legacies despite both of them being members of the same political party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Oyetola’s second term bid is being threatened by his feud with Aregbesola.
Owoeye and the other lawmakers elected on the platform of the APC, The Nation gathered, visited Adeboye during the week at Redemption Camp on Lagos/Ibadan Expressway, soliciting his help to broker peace between the two heavyweights.
The newspaper quoted its source as saying, “Baba (Adeboye) appreciated the visit and the speaker’s team’s initiative to resolve the issues. He stressed however that though he is not a politician, he will be guided by the scripture that said blessed are peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God. The General Overseer prayed for his visitors before they departed for Osogbo.”
Adeboye and Aregbesola are both natives of Ijesa, Osun State.
The speaker’s spokesman Kunle Alabi told the newspaper that although he was not privy to what was discussed it was not out of place to seek Adeboye’s help.
“Well, I was aware of the meeting but I am not privy to what was discussed. However, the speaker is a party man to the core and would stop at nothing, including, enlisting Baba Adeboye’s help to resolve the crisis, towards ensuring that APC is victorious during July 2022 governorship election,” he said.
