Constitutional lawyer Mike Ozekhome has joined the legal team of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu.
Mr Ozekhome will be leading the defence team which also comprises Ifeanyi Ejiofor.
Mr Kanu arrived at the Federal High Court in Abuja at 7am on Tuesday amid tight security as operatives of the Department of State Services frisked journalists and lawyers.
“Yes, I’m now in the legal team and that’s why you’re seeing me in court,” Ozekhome said.
Ejiofor had in a statement announced that Kanu’s legal team will be fortified as a Christmas gift to the IPOB leader.
Ahead of Kanu’s appearance before Justice Binta Nyako, the Federal Government on Monday filed fresh terrorism charges against him.
The initial seven counts bordering on treasonable felony and terrorism against the IPOB leader was increased to 15 counts.
Kanu will now enter his fresh plea to a 15-count amended charge signed by the director of public prosecution, Mohammed Abubakar.
