Former governor of Lagos State Akinwunmi Ambode has called on young people to get their permanent voters cards (PVCs) ahead of the 2023 general elections.
In a rare post across social media platforms on Tuesday, Mr Ambode thanked all for their endorsement of his contributions to Lagos.
“After all we have been through, God has been faithful. Thank you for the overwhelming endorsement of our modest contributions to the growth of Lagos,” he wrote.
“It can only get better for Lagos, and indeed Nigeria. The youths are coming. The power is in their hands. Go and get your Permanent Voters Card (PVC) ready. Your future is NOW!”
Ambode had a public fallout with the leader of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, a strongman in Lagos politics, in 2018 which ultimately cost him his second term.
His message comes as Tinubu is garnering support nationwide for his (Tinubu’s) presidential bid in 2023.
Ambode, 58, is constitutionally permitted to be in office for one more term of four years. His successor Babjide Sanwo-Olu had also recently called on Lagosians to vote for continuity.
“I think we are doing a very good job, I dare say so. I think the citizens know what it is they will be missing if they don’t let us continue to wrap up all the things we are doing,” Mr Sanwo-Olu said in a recent interview.
Ambode has been in the background in Lagos politics since leaving office in 2019.
