Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa has donated N2 million to a member of the Atlanta ’96 Olympics Gold medal-winning Dream Team, Kingsley Obiekwu.
Obiekwu recently went public about his financial struggles, revealing that he had become a taxi driver in Enugu as several football clubs including Ifeanyi Uba FC were owing him money.
Though Musa did not publicly announce the donation, close associates of the former CSKA Moscow forward confirmed the development.
A post by Samuel Adepoju on Twitter, which Musa liked, read: “Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa has donated N2 million to support 1996 Olympic Gold Medalist, Kingsley Obiekwu.”
Obiekwu told NAN on Tuesday in Awka, Anambra State that he had no shame in doing something legitimate to take care of his family.
The defender played for Enugu Rangers, Udoji United and Dutch side, Go Ahead Eagles.
Fondly called Shagari, the 47-year old returned to Nigeria in 2008. He now coaches INGAS FC, Enugu which he combines with the commercial transport business.
Obiekwu also stated that being owed over N6 million cumulatively by his former employees had also made things difficult for him.
