A governorship aspirant in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Osun State Akin Ogunbiyi on Monday announced his withdrawal from the primary.
Ogunbiyi, who is the chairman of Mutual Benefits Assurance, accused the PDP national chairman Iyorcha Ayu of bias.
“It is a very difficult decision for me because of the amount of investment and the hope that my personality and leadership would have given to Osun State,” he told a news conference at his Idera De Campaign Office in Osogbo.
“But when you have an umpire who is biased to the extent of planning with the other group, what can you do?”
Ogunbiyi did not hold back in calling everyone he is aggrieved with by name, alleging that the PDP leadership was behind Senator Ademola Adeleke to emerge as governorship candidate.
“Senator Ayu has agreed to work with Ademola Adeleke and I’m being told that I shouldn’t waste my money and we did everything possible,” said Ogunbiyi.
“I can only come to the conclusion to withdraw from the race because up till this moment, they are there planning on how they can execute.”
Adeleke was the party’s governorship candidate in 2018. He, however, lost to Gboyega Oyetola who is now seeking a second term.
