Former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria Prof. Charles Soludo has been sworn in as the fifth governor of Anambra State at a low-key ceremony held in the Government House on Thursday.
Deputy Governor Onyeka Ibezim also took his oath of office.
Soludo won the election conducted last year in Anambra. His closest rival at the polls was Valentine Ozigbo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The former banker won 19 of the 21 local government areas of the state and a total of 112,229 votes. Ozigbo had 53,807 votes.
The swearing-in ceremony had about 50 invitees. Some of the attendees include the national chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Victor Oye and wife; Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Uchenna Okafor and wife; Senator Victor Umeh and wife; Bianca Ojukwu, clergymen, traditional rulers among others.
The ex-governor Willie Obiano had on Wednesday given Soludo a tour of the Government House and handed over some state documents to him.
In his farewell speech, Obiano thanked the state for the privilege to serve, asking for forgiveness from those he offended.
According to him, his intentions were pure even though he might have stepped on toes.
Obiano noted that his administration delivered on his campaign promises throughout his eight years in office.
