Socialite Chidinma Ogbulu aka Erelu Okin, who was recently arraigned for distributing petrol as party souvenir in Lagos, has announced on social media that she paid fines owed by 10 men, preventing them from going to jail.
Ogbulu posted to Instagram on Thursday a video of herself dressed in white and some men thanking her. According to her, she was moved to pay their fines as she was perfecting her bail.
Following her arraignment on Monday, a Special Offences (Mobile) Court in the Oshodi area of Lagos granted her N2 million bail with two responsible sureties who have verified addresses and three years’ tax clearance.
In her Instagram post on Thursday, she said, “Things are so hard and I truly appreciate life. As I perfected my bail, I saw 10 young men who were about to go to jail because they could not pay fines ranging from N10K-N15K. Jail stared them in the faces as life became gloomy for them.
“I paid for them and the 10 young men were all released. I paid not because I am rich but because I became overwhelmed with compassion.”
The socialite called on the public to “lift” and “encourage ourselves.”
“As Erelu Okin, my mission is to beautify lives and this is just the beginning,” she added.
Ogbulu reportedly distributed petrol while celebrating her chieftaincy title on March 5, 2022, at the Havillah Event Centre, Lagos.
Her case was adjourned till March 24, 2022, for trial.
