Oluwo of Iwo Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi has unveiled his new wife Queen Firdaus Akanbi who is the niece of the Emir of Kano Aminu Ado Bayero.
The monarch posted photos of his wife to Instagram on Saturday as the wedding was being held at the residence of the Madakin of Kano, in the ancient city of Kano.
In his post, the Oluwo said he was both blessed and lucky to have Queen Firdaus as his wife.
“Behold The ‘Queen Firdaus’ of Iwoland Firdaus means Paradise and that is Her Majesty Queen Paradise !!! I thank God for being lucky to be blessed,” he said.
In another Instagram post, the Oluwo said, “We belong together and it starts now with my soulmate that I finally found.”
The respected traditional ruler, according to tradition, was not present at the wedding. His wife was brought to him after the occasion.
In Kano, a reception, strictly for ladies, was held at The Gidan Rumfa, the palace of the Emir of Kano.
Oba Akanbi, who became the Oluwo of Iwo in November 2015, at 48, married his first wife Chanel Chin, a Jamaican, shortly after he was enthroned.
According to the monarch, the union which produced a son named Oduduwa, ended due to irreconcilable differences.
Last month, a letter surfaced on the internet, suggesting that the Oluwo requested N20 million from the governor of Osun State to finance his wedding since it was a “marriage of two important institutions in Nigeria.” Both the Oluwo and the state government disowned the letter.
