Technical adviser of the Super Eagles Austin Eguavoen has stepped down from his position with immediate effect.
The move followed Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. The Super Eagles lost the ticket to eternal rivals Ghana.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has in the meantime withdrawn the two-and-half year contract offered the coaches and terminated the appointment of the entire technical crew of the team with immediate effect. A new crew will be announced in the coming days.
“We thank the coaches and team officials for their service to the nation and wish them success in their future endeavours,” NFF general secretary Mohammed Sanusi said.
The sacked crew included ex-internationals like Emmanuel Amuneke and Joseph Yobo.
Eguavoen was originally hired as the technical director for the NFF. He was later drafted in as the emergency replacement for Gernot Rohr who was sacked in December 2021 just weeks before the commencement of the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
