Odinakachi Ukanwa, a close friend of the late gospel singer Osinachi Nwachukwu, has alleged that the singer’s husband Peter Nwachukwu once asked her (Osinachi) to sleep in a brothel.
Osinachi died on April 8 in Abuja. She is alleged to have suffered domestic violence and maltreatment for several years.
Ukanwa spoke with BBC Igbo amid comments from various persons about the matter. She said the brothel incident happened during one trip Osinachi made to Lagos.
She said she had prepared to receive her friend when the musician told her her “husband said she should not sleep in my house.”
“She even waited at the airport for her husband to first send her money,” Ukanwa said.
According to her, Osinachi’s husband gave her a particular hotel where she should lodge.
“As they got there the taxi man told her that the place is not a hotel but a brothel,” she said.
Ukanwa, who said her friendship with Osinachi dates back to their childhood, added that the ‘Ekwueme’ singer was strongly opposed to divorce.
She further said that after the incident Osinachi opened up to her that things were not going well in her house.
Nwachukwu, her husband, is currently in police custody.
