Rivers State Police have arrested a member of the House of Representatives Farah Dagogo declared wanted by Governor Nyesom Wike.
The governorship aspirant was arrested around 6:30pm on Thursday when he went for his screening at the south-south zonal office of the Peoples Democratic Party in Port Harcourt, the state capital.
Dagogo is a beneficiary of the Federal Government’s amnesty granted to militants in the Niger Delta.
The police barred journalists from covering his arrest.
Wike on Wednesday called for Dagogo’s arrest, accusing him of hiring cultists to attack the PDP secretariat in Port Harcourt.
However, Dagogo’s media aide Ibrahim Lawal denied the allegations in a statement.
“The directive for the arrest of Honourable Dagogo violates the spirits of Section 14 and 33 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended),” Lawal said.
He added that Dagogo would honour an invitation by the police after Thursday’s screening by the party.
