Wale Oluwo, the chairman of the Akinwunmi Ambode Campaign Organisation, has submitted his governorship form to the All Progressives Congress (APC) to challenge Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for the seat.
Oluwo submitted the forms to the party on Wednesday at the International Conference Centre, Abuja.
The longtime ally of former governor Akinwunmi Ambode recently spoke about challenging Sanwo-Olu for the governorship seat, although he did not say he would be the one posing the challenge.
Oluwo told PUNCH on Thursday that the forms were for himself, not the ex-governor.
Asked if Ambode would be running for any political office in 2023, Oluwo said the former governor would speak on that himself. Ambode was denied a second term by the party in 2018 after his fallout with bigwigs in the party.
Oluwo, on the other hand, was the commissioner for energy and mineral resources during Ambode’s administration.
Sanwo-Olu has since received the backing of the Governor’s Advisory Council, the highest decision-making organ of the party headed by Bola Tinubu, for second term in 2023.
